Patterns for research software management using GitHub

GitHub offers a wide range of tools to support the effective management of open-source research software. In this seminar we will cover some of these tools and workflows, including encouraging and managing collaboration, tracking and resolving issues, maintaining and improving code quality, and enabling automated code testing.

ARCHER2 for Software Developers
This two day course provides an introduction to using ARCHER2 for user who have already used other HPC systems and want to compile (and possibly) develop HPC software on ARCHER2.

Software Carpentry
This course, taught over four morning sessions, helps scientists and engineers become more productive by teaching them basic computing skills like program design, version control, testing, and task automation.

Understanding Package Performance
This course focuses on efficient use of centrally installed packages. It will take a holistic approach and cover tools and techniques to help researchers to improve their overall scientific productivity on large-scale HPC systems.

Call for Proposals for HPC Compute Resources from DECI-17 (Tier-1) and EUDAT services and resources for data management

The PRACE DECI programme provides cross-national access to European Tier-1 HPC resources (national systems). Access will be awarded for a period of 12 months, beginning 1 June 2021. For this call additional resources and services are available from EUDAT for data management.
Applicants need not specify a particular machine or architecture, but if they do, we will endeavour to take these preferences into account.

- Closing date: 31 January 2021, 17:00 UTC
- Anticipated allocation decisions: May 2021
- Allocation start: 1 June 2021
- Allocation period: 1 year for Project Access
- Type of access: DECI (Tier-1)

ARCHER2 Embedded CSE (eCSE) call
We are very pleased to announce that the 3rd ARCHER2 eCSE call (ARCHER2 eCSE03) is now open for proposals. The deadline for submitting documents for technical evaluations is 26 January 2021, with the final deadline for proposal submission being 16 February 2021.
Embedded CSE (eCSE) support provides funding to the ARCHER2 user community to develop software in a sustainable manner, to run on the ARCHER2 system. For this call software which results in research which is within the remit of EPSRC or NERC is eligible.

End of ARCHER Service
- ARCHER will NOT be switched off BEFORE 27th January
- UKRI continue to give the commitment that 14 days notice will be provided to users before ARCHER is switched off
- The date that ARCHER will be switched off will be confirmed in the new year but as stated above, the earliest this will happen is 27th January and at least 14 days notice will be given to users.
